Myanmar’s Lower House has demanded journalists who want to report on the Parliament beginning its term on February 1 must register at the press council.

In a letter dated January 7 to the Myanmar Press Council, it said this is applied with all local and foreign journalists.

The Myanmar Press Council (MPC) is asked to complete the scrutiny on the names of the journalists – locals and foreigners – who want to report parliamentary news on the day by the end of January 24. The extended lists will have to be submitted three days in advance.

However, the Upper House office did not issue such a requirement. Journalists seeking to report on the Upper House that day can contact the Upper House directly or through the MPC.

Journalists have had to inform the Ministry of Information of their intentions to report from parliament in during the current term, excluding the most recent session.
