Myingyan power plant to finish soon

The Myingyan combined-cycle gas turbine power plant is about 91 per cent finished and the electricity generated from the power plant will be added to national grid, according to the Ministry of Electricity and Energy.

The 225-megawatt power project was developed by Singapore based Sembcorp Myingyan Power Co Ltd, under a power purchase agreement with the Electric Power Production Enterprise under the ministry.

It will add more electricity in Mandalay region using gas turbines too.

The ministry is building new gas turbine power plants in Thaton and Thaketa to produce additional electricity.

The 120-megawatt power project is a state owned programme developed in Thaton, Mon State. It is now about 80 per cent finished.

Similarly, the 106-megawatt power project in Thaketa is about 78 per cent finished and it would fulfil projected electricity requirements in Yangon region, according to the ministry.

Electric consumption in Myanmar is increasing annually. Annual electric consumption rate has been increasing 15 per cent on average. Electric consumption in May 2017 is 273 megawatts higher than the consumption rate in May 2016.

Myanmar will need 1,456 megawatts for the 2020-21 fiscal year, with electric consumption expected to reach to 4,531 megawatts.
