The Deputy Minister for Planning and Finance U Maung Maung Win promised to make Hpa-an Industrial Zone a success at the Amyotha Hluttaw Session yesterday.

The progress of Hpa-an Industrial Zone has been hampered by land disputes, delays in establishing factories, low demand for finished products manufactured in the zone, hesitation of local entrepreneurs and a lack of capital, technology and skilled labour, the deputy minister said.

The deputy minister was responding to a question raised by a representative concerning the industrial zone.
The industrial zone is being set up on 969 acres of land, some of which were farmland and, as a result, land disputes have arisen, according to the deputy.

However, the deputy minister pledged to implement the industrial zone successfully by making scattered factories and workshops in Hpa-an move to the industrial zone, encouraging competitiveness, providing technical assistance to entrepreneurs, training skilled workers and inviting local as well as foreign investment.

Deputy Minister for Border Affairs Maj-Gen Than Htut also replied to questions on regional development raised by representatives from Chin State and Kachin State.
