THE Mandalay City Development Committee (MCDC) is scheduled to launch its own metro fibre network to help the e-government system in cooperation with EAGER Communication Group Co Ltd according to an information officer of the committee.

Installation works kicked off on the Mandalay Metro Fibre Network on 28 March following the signing of an agreement between the committee and the company on 9 March, said U Kyaw Lin Nyein, MCDC’s chief information officer, adding that 40km of optical fibre has been deployed for the network.

Aiming at launching its own fibre optic network, the MCDC studied Korea’s e-government system in 2014, said the information office.

According to the MCDC, micro trenching system and manual trenching system are being used to install more than 750-km network. Upon completion, triple play service offering Internet system, traffic light control and CCTV services through fibre cable will be available, said an expert from the company.

According to the three-year Mandalay metro fibre network installation project, the installation of 250km of fibre is set for completion each year.

Under the terms and conditions of the 30-year contract between the MCDC and the company, the committee will see no profit from the project for 20 years but will receive 40 per cent of the profit for the remaining 10-year period.
